It is no surprise why archeologists describe this location as a prehistoric highway interchange for indigenous tribes. Valley View is nestled near the confluence of the Little Miami and East Fork Rivers in Historic Milford just upstream of the Ohio River. Artifacts from all tribes that inhabited southwest Ohio over the past 10,000 years have been found on the land.
In 1803, surveyors sent by Thomas Jefferson documented a large bird-shaped Hopewell mound structure known as the Milford Works, akin to Serpent Mound. Based on their rudimentary surveys, part of the mound almost certainly existed on the land before pioneers arrived
The stone farmhouse at Valley View was built around 1810 by John Pollock, the first judge in Clermont County who was, at that time, the Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives. It is one of the oldest homes in southwest Ohio and was owned by the Gatch family for nearly 165 years before Valley View became just the third owner in 2015.
