For nearly two decades, Vanessa has worn many hats at Valley View, while remaining focused on the mission of restoration, conservation and sharing the land with the community. Growing up exploring the outdoors – climbing trees, camping, hiking, fishing, and digging in the dirt – she found a natural home at Valley View. Her journey began as a volunteer helping with events and community outreach. Vanessa’s dedication and desire to contribute led her to join the Board of Directors, and when the need arose for a part-time Executive Director, she was a great fit.
Today, as Executive Director, Vanessa works hand-in-hand with the dedicated volunteers who make Valley View a regional gem. Stewardship of the land, fostering community engagement, and securing resources are all areas where Vanessa’s leadership shines.
Prior to her work with Valley View, Vanessa was involved in experiential education and performance management for eighteen years. She worked in both the public and private sector leading youth groups, corporate teams, developing program content, and training fellow instructors. She worked in outdoor/experiential education as a high ropes course instructor and trainer with the Adventure Education Center in Columbus, Ohio for nine years. After to Cincinnati in 1993, she continued with Mercantile Stores University. Later, as a consultant, she worked with Anheuser-Busch, Fifth Third Bank, Ford Motor Company and others.
Vanessa is a graduate of the Columbus College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in retail advertising and a secondary degree in advertising design. She and her husband Paul live in Milford near Valley View where they have raised their three sons.
